Course Narrative:
During this course I was able to achieve the language proficiency of MLO1, communicating effectively in Spanish is a requirement. I also fulfill the literary and cultural knowledge of the MLO3, by being exposed to understanding the different thinking and behavioral practices of Hispanic societies. The collaborative powerpoint of Modernismo supports the interpretive and presentation form for this course. The book that we use for this class was, Aproximaciones, it is divided into three sections: narrative, poetry, and theater. During the first part of the class we learned about literary movements: Edad Media, Modernism, Surrealism, Naturalism and others. Interesting readings were assigned for each movement. During lecture Dr. Fernandez will lecture us about the literary movement and the authors associated with each movement to later be introduce to their works. We had the opportunity to discuss the readings in class and analyze to have a better understanding of the purpose of the author and the meaning we found in their writing. One of my favorite short story during this class was “La muñeca menor”, by Rosario Ferré. For poetry we were introduced to many poets from different periods of time and learned about their different styles. For theater we analyze “La casa de Bernarda Alba”, by Federico García Lorca, it was really interesting to read this play and be able to also see it play on the screen. This gives us the opportunity to compared the writing work to the film, it also help us understand better the story. This class taught me valuable skills I would keep using to analyze future readings.
