SPAN 300: Pre-Capstone for Spanish Majors
Course description:
Directed toward Spanish majors preparing for their Capstone experience, this course aims
to guide the student in the process of completing a capstone proposal and initiating the preliminary steps
toward the graduation ePortfolio. The ePortfolio provides evidence that a student is making satisfactory progress toward meeting the Core requirements and Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs) for the Spanish B.A.
Course Narrative:
This course, Pre Capstone, contributed to the fulfillment of my MLO 6 outcomes. I had the opportunity to learn valuable skills to do research and use technology, to prepared my final capstone project and meet my graduation requirements. During this course we were divide into our capstone groups and we had the opportunity to start thinking about our possible topics for our project. We had the opportunity to choose topics from the field of linguistics or literature. This course also provided us with trainings to learned how to use the library's database and Gus Leonard provided technology lessons to help us get our powerpoint presentations ready. One understanding that I gain from this course and that meets my MLO 6, is reading text and questioning what I am reading in order to research a topic. I also learned new technology skills that help me find the information I need it for my research. This course help me to get started with my research project by analyzing different sources, and taking notes for future reference. The capstone project, is an abundant amount of work. This course help my research my research and technology skills something that I also use for other courses. At the same time Pre-capstone was an important opportunity to get started in our final project. At the end of this course we had a clear idea of the topic for our project, we were able to present our the outline of our project to our classmates and share information that could help us improve our presentations. We also had the opportunity work on our ePortfolio, and do peer review, which is an important requirement for graduation.
