The student develops a basic understanding of the ways of thinking (ideas, beliefs, attitudes, values, and philosophies), the behavioral practices (patterns of social interactions) and the cultural products – both tangible and intangible (for example, art, history, literature, music) – of the second culture.
4.1 Students describe concepts of culture and use that understanding in their comparison of Hispanic cultures with a second culture other than those.
4.2 Students will analyze and make connections between the perspectives, ways of thinking, behavioral practices, and cultural products of a second culture other than Hispanic cultures.

JAPN 307: Japan- American Experience
Course Narrative:
During this course, I was able to achieved the, MLO 4: Secondary Culture Other than Hispanic Cultures. In addition to my Spanish language and Hispanic Cultures major, I the opportunity to gain a general knowledge of a socio-cultural group other than a Hispanic or American culture. I developed a basic understanding of their beliefs, social issues and their cultural. I had the opportunity to compare the Japanese culture to the Hispanic culture, in the United States, and make connections between them. This class was based on the history of the first generation of Japanese people coming to America. During this class I was able to learn about a new culture and the struggles they had to overcome to come to this country. One of the things that was the most interesting to me was that during this course I learned more about the attack on Pearl Harbor, and how this event changed the lives for many Japanese-American in this country. One of the projects I did for this class was a presentation about the life of many Japanese-American in the concentration camps. I choose this topic because learning about the way they suffer and the conditions they lived in had a great impact on me. One way that I was able to relate this course to my other culture courses was the emigration of the Japanese people to the United States, just like many hispanic individuals the Japanese migrated in to this country hoping to find a better way of living, their history in the country show us the discrimination and the inhumanity that they went through after the Pearl Harbor attack.
