Course Narrative:
During this course, SPAN 400: WLC Major Capstone, I was able to achieve Language Proficiency for the MLO 1, in order to able to communicate effectively in three modes: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational methods, and in a variety of social and professional settings and circumstances at the Advanced Low level of language proficiency. During this course we work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. We also completed a Graduation ePortfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. The capstone project is an intense research project that is required for graduation. Our instructor Dr. Carolyn Gonzalez as well as other major advisors, helped us through every step of our Capstone project. The project was done in pairs, and we had the opportunity to choose from the Linguistic or Literature field. My partner and I, choose literature as our field of study. And later on we found the topic in literature that we were interested in. Completing the Capstone project tooks us a lot of time, is important to understand that a project of this magnitude requires a combination of discipline and skills acquired through our years of study in the Spanish major. For this project we had the opportunity to write a 25 page essay, and an oral presentation, explaining the results of our investigation. During this class we also had the opportunity to complete our Eportfolio, which reflects how each MLO was meet. The title of our Capstone project is, “The Female Bildungsroman in the Chicana Novels of Reyna Grande and Graciela Limón”, and you can find more information about this project in the Capstone page.
